Nano Technology, the fast developing branch of the technology has an important part to play in future Mercedes engines. According to latest reports, Mercedes Benz has developed a latest engine which uses Nano Technology to reduce the internal frictions of the engine. To be more specific, Mercedes uses Nano Technology for bringing down friction between cylinder wall and piston of an engine. The latest technology is called “Nanoslide” by Mercedes Benz.

The process involves, a mixture of molten steel and carbon sprayed over cylinder wall using electrolysis process. Another layer of coating is applied over engine piston. But the material used for the piston coating is Teflon. The process gives a shining, mirror like surface but with micro-pores. This surface will reduce the sliding friction considerably. The tiny holes on the surface will help cylinder surface to keep lubricants and further reduce friction.

The Nanoslide technology will reduce the friction of the engine by 50% and helps engine to reduce weight by 4.3Kg. The reduction in engine friction and weight will result in over all fuel economy of 3%.

So let us be ready to welcome more fuel efficient engines from Stuttgart.
